Frequently Asked Questions
What is an authorisation hold?
An authorisation hold is first placed on the payment card linked to MobilePay. An authorisation hold is a pre-approval that reserves an amount for a future charge. The actual charge is made only when the order is delivered or collected from the store.
If you cancel an order that you have paid for before delivery, the authorisation hold on your payment card will be automatically released within 21 days. Often, the authorisation hold is released immediately. The exact timing of the release depends on your bank and the type of payment card linked to MobilePay.
If you split or modify the order so that a new order is created or the order value exceeds the original authorisation hold, you will need to make a new authorisation hold. The old authorisation hold may still appear in the MobilePay app transactions, even though it has already been released from your payment card.
The authorisation hold is released when the charge is made or at the latest 21 days after the hold was placed. Usually, the hold is automatically released when the charge is made. If there are multiple authorisation holds related to the order, the extra ones will be automatically released during order processing. If no charge is made, the hold will be released at the latest 21 days after it was placed.
Why did the MobilePay payment fail?
MobilePay has the same restrictions as traditional card payments. The most common reasons for failure are:
- No internet connection
- Outdated app (requires update)
- Incorrect card or account details
- Temporary disruption at the bank or MobilePay
- Security limit or blocked card type (e.g. foreign/virtual cards)
- Payment approval time exceeded
- Phone notifications/background apps blocked
Verkkokauppa.com does not see the reason for the payment failure, and payment card details are not disclosed or stored in our system.
