Electronic Waste (WEEE) Recycling

You can recycle electrical and electronic waste as well as used batteries at the service points of Verkkokauppa.com stores, and WEEE waste at the recycling point of the Vantaa pick-up warehouse. We forward the received electronic waste for further recycling processing.

What is electrical and electronic equipment waste, i.e. WEEE?

Electrical and electronic equipment waste, or WEEE, refers to electrical devices that are no longer in use. This includes devices powered by mains electricity, batteries, or accumulators, such as household appliances, televisions, computers, phones, hairdryers, and other electrical devices, as well as lamps (excluding incandescent and halogen lamps, which can be disposed of in mixed waste). WEEE waste must not be thrown into mixed waste. Recycled electrical devices are processed using appropriate recycling and treatment procedures, and substances harmful to the environment are handled in accordance with applicable regulations.

  • Small WEEE such as ink cartridges, batteries, LED lights, energy-saving lamps, and fluorescent tubes can be delivered directly to the recycling point located at the service area.
  • Data WEEE refers to phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. Remember to erase the device's memory before bringing it for recycling. Hand over these products only to the staff at the service point to ensure data security.
  • Large household appliances can be recycled through the store. In Jätkäsaari, they can be delivered directly to the loading dock. In Oulu, Pirkkala, and Raisio, you can ask the staff where to leave the device for recycling. The Vantaa pick-up warehouse has a WEEE collection for large household appliances.
  • Small batteries can be given to the service staff, but please tape the battery terminals or place them in a plastic bag before recycling. Swollen batteries, lead-acid batteries, and car batteries are hazardous waste and cannot be left for WEEE recycling.

     
  • Not everything is WEEE — for example, gas grills, baby strollers, incandescent and halogen lamps, and parts detached from electrical devices are not SER. You can take these to a sorting station or recycling rooms.
  • Hazardous waste such as paints, solvents, chemicals, waste oil, car batteries, swollen batteries, and other hazardous waste must be recycled according to instructions. In Jätkäsaari, there is an HSY recycling container behind the store.

Recycling and Verkkokauppa.com

You can bring WEEE waste, batteries, and ink cartridges to the service points of all Verkkokauppa.com stores. Additionally, WEEE waste can be brought to the recycling point at the Vantaa pick-up warehouse. The Helsinki service point is located on the third floor of the store. The service points in Oulu, Pirkkala, and Raisio are located at ground level adjacent to the stores. You can bring waste for recycling during the opening hours of the stores and the pick-up warehouse.

Instructions for recycling WEEE waste

Electrical devices and lamps should be delivered for recycling without their packaging – however, remember to handle lamps carefully to prevent breakage. Coffee makers’ glass pots are not part of WEEE waste, so please remember to recycle them separately.

Take care of data security and erase the memory of data devices before bringing them for recycling. If the device has removable mass storage, removing it is also a data-secure way to recycle the device. Always leave data devices to the service staff or in a locked data-WEEE container. Do not leave data devices at an open recycling point. Data devices include all devices containing memory, such as phones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, tape recorders, and digital cameras.

Batteries and ink cartridges

We also accept used batteries and ink cartridges for recycling. Batteries and ink cartridges are hazardous waste and must not be disposed of in mixed waste.
