The warranty covers manufacturing and material defects, but not normal wear and tear or physical damage. We have compiled a few examples of cases that would fall under the warranty – or would be the responsibility of the owner or insurance company. Each warranty case is considered individually, so the examples are purely illustrative.
Screen damage/faults
The warranty does not cover cracked screens or impacts on the screen.
Screens may develop so-called dead or hot pixels. Manufacturers have their own and varying conditions for when a screen can be serviced due to pixel defects. This usually depends on the number and/or location of the pixels.
Example: A phone falls from a pocket to the ground and the screen cracks. The damage is physical, so the warranty does not cover it.
Example: A brand X screen develops one dead pixel in the centre of the screen. According to the manufacturer's warranty terms, one dead pixel in the centre entitles the screen to be serviced, so the screen is repaired under warranty.
Moisture damage
The warranty does not cover damage caused by water or other liquids. Many phones and smartwatches have an IP rating that indicates how the product is protected against dust and water. In the IP rating, it must be noted that although a product may be splash-resistant (e.g., IPX4), it does not withstand immersion in water. And even if a product can withstand brief immersion in water (IP67), it does not withstand continuous immersion (IP68).
Example: A coffee cup spills onto a laptop keyboard. The laptop suffers liquid damage, which is not covered by the warranty.
Usage and installation errors
Of course, you want to start using a new product immediately, but it is advisable to read the usage and installation instructions carefully first. The warranty does not cover damage caused by incorrect use or installation.
Example: The transport supports are not removed from a washing machine, and the drum breaks during the first wash. The transport supports should be removed before use, so the damage is due to misuse, which is not covered by the warranty.
Wear parts and normal wear and tear
Many products have wear parts that need to be replaced regularly. The warranty does not cover such replaceable and wear parts; spare parts must be purchased separately.
Example: The faux leather ear pads on a pair of headphones a couple of years old start peeling. This is normal wear and tear, which is not covered by the warranty. New pads can be purchased from the online store.
Example: The zipper pull on a new backpack breaks off during normal use. There is a sewing defect in the backpack, which is covered by the warranty.
Other physical damage
Accidents and damage caused by external forces are not covered by the warranty.
Example: An inflatable mattress hits a sharp stone and punctures. The warranty does not cover accidents.
Data recovery and software
Data saved on devices, such as photos on a phone or documents on a computer, is not recovered under warranty. Software is not reinstalled, so we recommend keeping licenses for separately purchased software safe. And remember to back up your data!
If backups have not been made, Verkkokauppa.com does not offer data recovery. A paid service can be ordered from the repair company or a third-party company.
Example: A computer no longer starts, and parts are replaced and factory settings restored during repair. Data is not recovered under warranty.
Is there a fault with the product?
For matters covered or not covered by warranty, contact the brand's service centre (service instructions are listed here). The service centre always decides whether the fault is covered by the warranty. If the fault is not covered by the warranty, the repair company will provide a cost estimate for the repair.
